I’m so excited, I wet my plants!

Sunset on the Farm by Michigan fine artist Ellen Leigh

My husband and I are currently house hunting for a whole new way of life. That’s right- we’re moving out of a condo and into a house on some property, maybe a lot of acreage, maybe just a couple of acres. A new farm.
Al is retiring before the end of this year, and we’ll have lots of free time to devote to home-ownership and maintenance, garden design and planting, a little vegetable and fruit growing, maybe some bee-keeping for Al, perhaps some chickens- who knows? It may even look like the painting above. I painted that a few years ago as our dream farm, never thinking that some day we might just get there. It hangs above our bed, we see it every night before retiring.
So- before we get all involved in moving, fixing up and digging new gardens, I migrated my old garden blog to a new format here in WordPress. This way, it’s all set up and ready to go. I can start posting with photos of what we’re doing on the homestead as soon as we find the right spot for our new farm!
How exciting is that?

I have truly missed gardening. Yes, we’ve had a garden plot in a community garden (it hasn’t done very well for two cold summer seasons, in spite of our best efforts) and yes, we have a little bit of lee-way here in growing some flowers and a bit of vegetables we’ve hidden here and there. I miss spending an hour or two weeding, dead-heading and wandering around with a new plant in my hand deciding where it would look best. I miss painting with flowers, creating and recreating a garden sanctuary, garden rooms, and beautiful destinations on my own property. I miss sharing it with wildlife, neighbors and the ones I love.

I can’t wait.
